My mate richard got stung last year with a scam involving a counterfeit escrow website. He lost 25k on a landrover disco that was sold about 10 times. 1 person got the car- the other 9 didn't. That's a tidy profit for the crooks.

Just saw this while browsing. Paypal is actually now a registered bank, so you do have some possible redress. Nevertheless I would definitely advise against using them. I sold a silk fly-line on e-bay to a Swiss bloke. Although paypal confirmed receipt of the money, iu never got it, ( 150 euros ). After a lot of messing about, I cancelled the e-bay and paypal accounts. Both line and money are write offs.

I would recommend reading at least some of this before you even consider using e-bay or paypal, or even if you are using them now.
