If you're going to GAC I'd check out Ugly Stik light spin rods  or Ron Thompson Hardcore rods in various lengths and weights. The Ugly stik has enought grunt to handle pretty much anything you'll come across in the uk without being too stiff. The RT is pretty much a cheaper imitation.
